Palmeiras close to signing Alexander Barbosa from Botafogo | OneFootball

Palmeiras are closing in on the signing of centre-back Alexander Barboza for the next transfer window as they look to reinforce their defence in 2026.

According to Nosso Palestra, talks with Botafogo over the 31-year-old are advanced, with a fee of around R$ 20 million viewed as a market opportunity by the Verdão.

The clubs are aligned on a move in the upcoming window. Barboza is under contract in Rio until the end of 2026, and Botafogo have agreed to let him go now to avoid losing him for nothing.

At 31, Barboza was a mainstay in the Botafogo back line that won the 2024 Conmebol Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro under Artur Jorge.

Beyond Barboza, Palmeiras’ centre-back options include Gustavo Gómez, Murilo, Bruno Fuchs and Benedetti. The club also retain an interest in Nino and will assess with the coaching staff whether to advance talks in the coming weeks.
