Palmeiras want to bring Danilo back from Botafogo, making the academy graduate their leading midfield target. According to Globo.com, there is no formal offer yet as the club assesses what to put on the table.

The Rio side plan to drive a hard bargain, with the No 8 considered one of the squad’s most important players.

Between 2020 and 2022, Danilo played 141 times for Palmeiras and scored 12 goals. He moved to Nottingham Forest in January 2023 for 20 million euros.

Botafogo announced his signing in July last year for 22 million euros, the most expensive addition in their history. He was close to leaving in January over labour issues.

He had three months of image rights overdue and had not received any FGTS instalments. Faced with that risk, Botafogo paid part of the debt and kept the player.

Days later, John Textor, owner of Botafogo’s SAF, was negotiating a 19 million euro return to Nottingham Forest. Botafogo still owe 20 million euros from his purchase.

Talks stalled when a Rio de Janeiro court suspended all acts related to sales and asset negotiations by the club’s SAF. Danilo said he was taken by surprise by the near move back to England.

Palmeiras had already checked on his situation at the start of the year, as had Zenit and a team from Türkiye.

In this window Palmeiras also tried to sign Marlon Freitas, then Botafogo captain. They are also pursuing Nino of Zenit and Arias of Wolverhampton.
