Former Italian striker Paolo Di Canio applauds Inter Milan captain Lautaro Martinez who is finding his scoring touch again.

The Nerazzurri hosted Empoli at San Siro on Sunday night and weren’t willing to settle for anything less than a win. After all, their direct Scudetto rivals Napoli had returned from Bergamo with a comprehensive victory over their hosts Atalanta the previous day.

Luckily for Serie A fans, they are arguably witnessing the most compelling title race in Europe, one that is leaving the bookmakers at odds with one another. Nevertheless, the majority of the most reliable betting websites still consider Inter as the slight favourite. And with Lautaro slowly but surely rediscovering his best form, it’s difficult to bet against the champions retaining their throne.

The Argentine bomber endured a difficult first half of the season, marred by recurring misses. Nevertheless, he finally appears to be hitting his stride.

The 27-year-old led Inter towards a 3-1 victory over Empoli by scoring a sensational long-range opener. The power and precision took the ball beyond the outstretched Johan Vazquez to open the floodgates after the break.

Therefore, Di Canio was impressed by the aesthetics, lauding the Nerazzurri captain for bouncing back in style.

“Lautaro Martinez is showing glimpses of the player we all know,” said the former Juventus, West Ham and Lazio striker during his appearance on Sky Sport Italia via FcInterNews.

“The goal he scored is fantastic and shows that he is officially back.”

Paolo Di Canio Was Praiseful Towards Inter Milan Captain Lautaro Martinez, But Criticized Mehdi Taremi

On the other hand, Di Canio didn’t have too many good things to say about Lautaro’s attacking partner Mehdi Taremi.

The Iranian was in the starting lineup, but couldn’t place his name on the scoresheet, although he worked his socks off. Instead, substitutes Marko Arnautovic and Marcus Thuram combined to score the third.

Therefore, the former Sunderland manager urges Taremi to start showing his nasty side. He even advised him to collect a few yellow cards on his way.

“Taremi has to be tougher. It’s fine that he gets the ball and passes to his teammates, but he has to do more.

“I’d like to see him have a greater impact, perhaps getting a few more yellow cards.

In addition to the goal, he needs to be more available on the pitch, especially in matches where every detail can make a difference,” argues Di Canio.
