Paraguay the only third-placed side left in World Cup last 16 | OneFootball

Paraguay are the only third-placed team still standing at the World Cup and will face France in the last 16 in Philadelphia on Saturday at 23:00.

According to L'Équipe, the other third-placed qualifiers have all gone out, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Ecuador, Sweden, Senegal, Algeria, DR Congo and Ghana.

Paraguay finished third in Group D, then eliminated Germany in the previous round, 1-1 after extra time, 4-3 on penalties.

Group D almost had all three representatives progress, but Australia, who were second, lost to Egypt on penalties after a 1-1 draw, 2-4 in the shootout.

Two groups that had advanced three teams to the round of 32 now have none left, Group E, Germany, Ivory Coast and Ecuador, and Group F, Netherlands, Japan and Sweden.
