Pedro Porro scored and was named MVP as Spain beat France to reach the World Cup final. The Tottenham full-back helped secure a return to the showpiece on Sunday 19 July.
Mikel Oyarzabal put Spain ahead from the penalty spot. Dani Olmo, who finished with 97% pass accuracy, then found the Don Benito-born defender unmarked and Porro steered past Mike Maignan to seal it. As reported by El Periódico Mediterráneo, Porro later reflected on the display.
Post-match, he said he was delighted with the team’s attitude and felt Spain had done everything required to go through.
Porro also downplayed his starring role, insisting the performance belonged to the whole side, and said dominating the ball had brought them closer to the final.
He minimised concern over his late substitution, explaining it was simply fatigue. His focus, he added, is now on recovery and on Sunday’s final, admitting with a laugh that he felt spent.
