Sevilla are keeping emotions in check after the derby draw with Real Betis, but have suffered a blow with Peque injured. The club said in a statement that he has a partial tear of the inner ligament in his left ankle. It is a grade two sprain and he is expected to be out for four to six weeks.
Isaac Romero and Alexis Sánchez found the net at La Cartuja, lifting the mood in Nervión yet leaving staff wary of any dip in edge. El Desmarque and Mundo Deportivo report he will miss at least Rayo, Barcelona and Valencia, with a return not expected until after the late March international break.
There is a recent warning. After thrashing Barcelona earlier this season, the team switched off and dropped three points at home to Mallorca. Avoiding a repeat is the priority.
Next up is Rayo Vallecano, a side defined by order and defensive discipline. They punish lapses, so patience and efficiency at both ends will shape the contest. With a busy schedule, the margin for error is slim.
Peque’s absence is a significant setback for Matías Almeyda’s plan. Though his role had reduced with Akor Adams back and Neal Maupay in form, his link play between the lines remained valuable.
The treatment room is under strain. Marcao is out for the season and Suazo will serve a ban, while Azpilicueta and Sow have been working separately. There is some relief as Rubén Vargas and Maupay near full fitness.
