Daniel Peretz provides deep insights into his difficult time at FC Bayern – and speaks openly for the first time about the mental challenges he faced during his reserve role in Munich
The Israeli goalkeeper, who is currently on loan at Southampton FC, has made an impressive return to England. But the road there was anything but easy. In an interview with the Transfermarkt portal, the 25-year-old looks back on a phase that had a lasting impact on him
Peretz moved to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023 with great ambitions, but he was denied his breakthrough behind Manuel Neuer. The keeper only made seven appearances in two seasons – too few for his own standards
The lack of match practice left its mark: „I had a lot of mental difficulties, but it really made me stronger to live through that time,“ Peretz explained openly
The situation was not easy for him to come to terms with, but he also drew positive lessons from this phase: „I knew that this was just a period, so I used the time to learn and improve.“
After a disappointing loan spell at Hamburger SV, where he was also just a substitute, he moved to Southampton FC in the winter – and thus the turning point
Peretz has impressed across the board in the English second division so far, keeping ten clean sheets in twelve games and increasingly playing his way into the limelight
The goalkeeper appears stable and mature – also thanks to the difficult experiences in Munich: „I’m glad that I’ve put that long period behind me.“

Despite the difficult sporting period, Peretz looks back positively on his time at FC Bayern – especially because of Manuel Neuer
„He’s the greatest of all time,“ enthused the keeper, emphasizing the support of the Bayern captain: „I’ll never forget how he welcomed me and helped me every day.“
These experiences have not only helped him on a sporting level, but also personally. It is currently unclear what will happen for Peretz in the summer. Southampton have a purchase option worth around eight million euros, but a final decision has yet to be made
The goalkeeper himself is keeping a low profile: „I’m really enjoying it here, but nobody knows what will happen in the future.“
One thing is clear, however: Peretz has put his difficult time at Bayern behind him – and now seems ready to show the potential that once brought him to Säbener Straße.
