Liverpool approach their Premier League clash with Chelsea under pressure to rediscover their rhythm. Successive defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray have dented confidence, and questions are already being asked of Arne Slot’s squad.
The expectation at Anfield has been heavy since the summer, particularly after more than £400 million was spent strengthening the team. New arrivals including Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak have yet to hit their stride, while Mohamed Salah’s recent form has left supporters frustrated.
Chelsea, also appear to be struggling for consistency, with Enzo Maresca failing to find a settled side due to injuries and a mixed bag of performances.
Despite Liverpool’s struggles, one former Anfield favourite remains confident. Speaking on the That Peter Crouch Podcast, the ex-striker delivered his prediction.
“Obviously, with Arsenal winning in the last minute, it feels like they’re in the ascendancy a little bit,” he said.
“Liverpool probably need a reaction, but it’s a tough place to go, obviously, at Chelsea.
“I do think Liverpool will get a result here, though. I’m going in! I’m going to go 3-1 Liverpool.”
Crouch’s bold forecast highlights the enduring belief that Liverpool still possess the firepower to overwhelm Chelsea, even when performances have faltered.
Arsenal’s late win last weekend has kept them within striking distance of top spot. Mikel Arteta’s team sit two points behind Liverpool, fuelled by the arrival of Viktor Gyokeres and a growing sense that their time has come after three consecutive second-place finishes.
Liverpool’s defeat to Palace opened the door for their rivals, and should Chelsea deny them on Saturday, the Gunners could be poised to leapfrog into first. A response is vital for Slot’s side if they are to underline their credentials as Premier League favourites.
This fixture now carries weight beyond its usual rivalry. Liverpool need a convincing performance to steady nerves, while Chelsea see an opportunity to accelerate their resurgence. With Arsenal applying pressure, the outcome could shape momentum at the top of the table.
