Reports have suggested that Brendan Rodgers is keen to reunite with the Celtic skipper at Al-Qadsiah, with the Saudi-backed side prepared to fund a significant transfer as part of an ambitious recruitment drive.
It would not be the first time Rodgers has attempted to prise McGregor away, having previously explored a deal during his spell at Leicester City in 2019.
Despite the financial power available in the Saudi Pro League, Celtic are expected to resist any approach, with McGregor under contract for another two-and-a-half years and showing no immediate desire to leave the Scottish champions.

Speaking on Go Radio Football show: ”He has done fantastic, and the bottom line is you get to a stage when you are a player that you make the decision. They will make the decision and say ‘I want to do this, I want to do that’.”
Grant, however, feels the final decision would rest squarely with the player himself. Asked whether supporters could begrudge the captain a lucrative January switch, the former Celtic fans-favourite offered his perspective, adding: “It’s different for me because I would have loved to stay at the club forever. A time always comes whether you are playing or not playing, there are certain things that you are not happy with and you make that decision.

“Then, if you get offered a crazy, amount of money…. I’m not saying that’s the thing that would turn it for him but if that was the case and Callum was thinking about it, I think he would prefer to wait until the summer time if it was going to happen.
“I think that is the sort of kid he would be. He would want to win the title again with Celtic.

“This is the first time in a long time thee has been a wee bit of adversity, there are question marks about the league [title]and the new manager coming in, is he enjoying it? All these things get asked, especially when you are not winning games.”
