Sheffield Wednesday are demanding a large amount of money for their 20-year-old goalkeeper Pierce Charles, likely meaning Djeidi Gassama déjà vu will not happen.
The Owls have reportedly set an asking price of around £8m for Charles, according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon.
In Wednesday's opening game of the Championship season against Leicester City, the Northern Ireland international made 11 saves despite the Yorkshire side losing 2-1.
By setting such a big reported valuation, it suggests that Wednesday are no longer allowing their best players to move on for a cut-price.
Djeidi Gassama was allowed to leave north of the border and join Glasgow giants Rangers for £2.2m earlier in the window - the Frenchman has scored four goals in five games for them since.
There's no denying that the asking price set for Charles takes into account his potential and Wednesday's determination not to repeat a Gassama situation.
Although Charles is the only first-team goalkeeper listed in the Wednesday squad, he'd already made himself the number-one regardless - after benching loanee James Beadle towards the end of last season.
Charles played eight games in the league in 24/25, conceding ten goals and failing to keep a clean sheet. He has reportedly been of interest to multiple Premier League sides.
The reported fee of £8m would definitely be the highest amount that Sheffield Wednesday can fetch for a player this window - but is probably the amount fans would've expected Gassama to go for if they weren't in financial trouble.
Gassama has scored four goals in three Champions League qualifying games for Rangers since signing from Sheffield Wednesday, also winning a controversial late penalty against Dundee in the league that James Tavernier converted.
Fans of both clubs have made their opinions known regarding the £2.2m fee to bring him to Scotland.
Despite Russell Martin having an obvious bad start to life as Gers Boss - being boo'd against Dundee after drawing his first two games - Gassama has been a bright spark.
Obviously, Sheffield Wednesday's outgoings this summer have almost exclusively been influenced by the club's financial difficulties under Chansiri's ownership, which is why the Charles developments will be a relief to Owls' fans.
Their willingness to set a high price does suggest they are taking a more serious approach in their decision to let players go - as the Gassama deal seemed very panicked - although the only person who really has a say is Dejphon Chansiri.
Along with Gassama, fellow winger Anthony Musaba was sold to Samsunspor in Turkey for £800k - meaning the club received just £3m for two of their better players in the squad.
That amount of money - for two players - wouldn't even cover half of Charles' fee, which will definitely be welcome news to Wednesday fans as they can't really afford to lose him.
