The Pilgrims are gearing up for a new league, following their relegation from the Championship, and are doing so with a new manager at the helm in Tom Cleverley.

They’ve already seen their two joint-top league goalscorers depart in Ryan Hardie and Mustapha Bundu, and have added a host of talent to their playing squad, but there’s more business to be done.

Here, Football League World walks you through the latest stories coming out of Home Park…

Football League World exclusively revealed at the beginning of July that Plymouth, along with Barnsley, Reading and Leyton Orient, are all interested in bringing in Brighton forward Mark O'Mahony on loan.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan with Portsmouth, but only managed 13 appearances and three goals due to setbacks with injury and Colby Bishop's form.

The Republic of Ireland youth international has made four senior appearances for Brighton, netting one goal.

Argyle are reportedly close to agreeing a deal to bring former Norwich City goalkeeper Archie Mair to Plymouth, according to Football Insider.

The 24-year-old is a free agent following the expiration of his contract with the Canaries, for whom he didn’t make a single senior appearance after signing with the club in 2019.

He does, however, arrive with senior experience from spells with Gateshead, King’s Lynn, Morecambe, Notts County, Dartford and Motherwell.

The Pilgrims have a gap in their goalkeeping department after Dan Grimshaw headed in the other direction to Carrow Road.

Maksym Talovierov heading to Stoke City

Football Insider have also revealed that Plymouth may soon be waving goodbye to defender Maksym Talovierov, with Stoke City reportedly close to sealing a move.

The Ukraine international joined Plymouth from Austrian side LASK in January, making 11 Championship appearances, scoring one goal and assisting another.

The defender joined for a club record fee, but Football Insider have said they’re “resigned” to losing the towering centre-back on account of their relegation to League One.

Michael Baidoo loan terms revealed

Michael Baidoo broke Plymouth’s transfer record in the same summer as Taloverov, when he joined from Swedish side Elfsborg.

Similarly to Taloverov, the 26-year-old also made 11 Championship appearances, with the expectation being that he might move on or try and consolidate his position in the third tier.

It was therefore to the bafflement of most fans when it was announced that Baidoo was to go out on loan to Qatari side Umm Salal SC.

More details have now been revealed by Plymouth Live, who state that Plymouth will receive a “six-figure sum” as a loan fee, have all of Baidoo’s wages covered by Umm Salal and the Qatari side will have the chance to make the move permanent for a similar fee to what the Pilgrims paid Elfsborg.

While it may make sense financially now, it certainly isn’t the route anybody was expecting when the attacker was signed at the start of the year.

Football Insider journalist Pete O’Rourke has revealed that Plymouth are eyeing another out-of-contract star in the form of former Bristol City man Ayman Benarous.

The 21-year-old is on trial at Plymouth, and could be signed on a free if the Pilgrims decide they like what they see.

The Former England youth international rose through the ranks at Bristol City, making 12 appearances for the senior side in total.
