Looking at this Newcastle team v Arsenal.
Only hours to go now before this Premier League game at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United looking to follow up the win over Bradford that took them into the last 16 of the Carabao Cup.
It is back to Premier League action and a huge game.
Newcastle United now looking to make it four home wins in a row against Mikel Arteta’s side.
As a reminder, this was the Newcastle team v Bradford:
Ramsdale, Krafth, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Bruno, Joelinton, Miley, Gordon, Osula, Elanga
The NUFC Head Coach has Wissa and Ramsey still out through injury, plus Fabian Schar almost certainly will miss due to concussion protocols, having been forced off against Barcelona following a blow to the head.
Eddie Howe said on Friday that Jacob Murphy has an ongoing Achilles issue that leaves him ‘sore’ after some training sessions but that the winger is fit and available.
So where does that leave us?
This is my predicted Newcastle team v Arsenal:
Pope, Livramento, Thiaw, Botman, Hall, Bruno, Joelinton, Tonali, Gordon, Woltemade, Elanga
If this proved the reality, it would see four changes to the eleven that started against Bradford.
Great to see Eddie Howe able to rotate and use his squad, hopefully preventing to much risk of injuries. A very credible point last weekend at Bournemouth even though a terrible game to watch, with then a dominant 4-1 win in midweek when Bradford were very fortunate United didn’t have their shooting boots on.
Hopefully they will all be wearing them this afternoon…
I think the return of Nick Pope (four clean sheets in five PL matches) and Sandro Tonali (Italian genius) are easy to predict, replacing Aaron Ramsdale and Lewis Miley.
Emil Krafth will also drop to the bench. Just a case for me then of whether Kieran Trippier comes in and Tino Livramento moves to the left, or Tino and Lewis Hall both play. I think the latter.
I think it will be Thiaw and Botman staying in the middle of defence, then very likely Schar and Burn to play on Wednesday in the Champions League.
Which leaves for me the big question up front. Will Nick Woltemade start, or come off the bench?
Will Osula did well AND scored goals on Wednesday but I think Big Nick comes in.
