Rangers midfielder Joe Rothwell is set to join Sheffield United on a free transfer before the transfer deadline today, according to the Daily Mail.

The 21-year-old has played 19 times for Rangers this term but is not in the plans of manager Danny Rohl and is on his way out of the Ibrox club.

Rothwell last played for the Light Blues last October, featuring for 83 minutes in their Scottish Premiership game against Dundee United before playing 64 minutes against Brann in the Europa League five days later.

He was on the bench against Ludogorets last month but has not made the Rangers matchday squad in the league in the last 12 games.

The Englishman is scheduled to have a medical at the English Championship club ahead of joining on an 18-month deal.

Rangers have signed Tochi Chukwuani to strengthen their options in the middle of the park and are unlikely to look to bring in a replacement for Rothwell today.

Rohl wants to bolster his attacking ranks instead, with Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi edging closer to sealing a move to join the Bears.

The German is on his way to the United Kingdom for a medical ahead of potentially joining Rangers before today’s 7pm deadline.

It remains to be seen whether any movements will be happening at the Ibrox club in the coming hours.

Kieran Dowell left Rangers earlier in the window for Hull City in a permanent deal, while Oscar Cortes, Lyall Cameron and Findlay Curtis left on loan for Atletico Huracan, Aberdeen and Kilmarnock, respectively.
