"It's a real top-of-the-table clash," was how Ole Werner described his side's upcoming home game against VfB Stuttgart. The Bulls, who currently find themselves in second, prepare to welcome the league's third-place side to the Red Bull Arena on Saturday (15:30 CET).

Latest team news:

  • Kevin Kampl (personal reasons) will not be part of the matchday squad against Stuttgart.
  • Kosta Nedeljkovic (stress reaction in right knee), Viggo Gebel (ACL tear in right knee) and Benny Henrichs (Achilles) are unavailable for selection due to injury.
  • All other players are fit and available for selection against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday.

What he's expecting from the game

  • "It will be an even game. Both teams are known for playing attacking football and for seeking to get the ball up the pitch. At the same time, both VfB and us have been defending well at the moment. The little things will make the difference in a game like this. Both teams are currently in good form - it's a real top-of-the-table clash."
  • "During our meetings this past week, you could really sense that the players know exactly what we're up against on the weekend. You cannot permit yourself any mistakes against a team of VfB's calibre and have to be well-prepared. Despite the added strain of a mid-week cup game in Cottbus, the players were all extremely focused on the training pitch this week. Everyone is excited for the match."

VfB's strengths

  • "We're hosting a top team in Stuttgart this weekend. In my opinion, they're the toughest opponent we've had since Bayern. They are a well-drilled side with plenty of quality on the pitch and in the dugout as well, which is what makes them such a tough opponent."
  • "Stuttgart are a well-organised side. They play as a team and press their opponents hard. Compared to last season, they tend to do more man-marking, look to press their opponents even earlier and cause problems for them in this manner."
  • "They have a clear plan of how they want to play. Even when they have the ball, they're always trying to draw their opponents out. Stuttgart are able to get the ball deep with the help of their speedy attackers and they are very variable in how they're able to line up in attack."

How RBL can manage to break down VfB:

  • "For us it's about avoiding mistakes when under pressure and finding the right solutions. We need to remain focused for the full 90 minutes and pose a threat across the pitch."
  • "We want to be brave in attack again and build on the performances from our last games. Stuttgart have a lot of quality in their team, but for us, it's about proving that we're capable of still playing our game in the face of that. We want to showcase our developement by getting a positive result."
  • "The key thing will be for all of us to be 100% ready tomorrow and that we're all fully focused for the full 90 minutes."

The perfect week

  1. "The fact that we have a chance to set a new record at RB Leipzig by picking up 22 points from our first nine games isn't what we're focused on. What matters to us is getting the three points that are up for grabs tomorrow, because if we get those, then we have a chance to make it a perfect week after the wins in Augsburg and Cottbus."
  2. We're in good form right now and every week that passes has seen us grow closer together as a team, after the rebuild we went through over the summer. That's made a difference in our results as well. We've been able to win some tight games by virtue of our individual quality and because we've stuck together at key moments, which has resulted in us having the luck we need."

Ein mögliches Elfmeterschießen:
