According to The Athletic journalist Mario Cortegana, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was informed as early as March that Trent Alexander-Arnold will arrive at the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

While much has been speculated about Madrid’s interest in the Liverpool right-back, this new detail confirms that the club has been planning the transfer well in advance.

Much like their patient and calculated approach with Kylian Mbappe, Madrid have adopted a similar strategy with Alexander-Arnold.

The England international, whose current contract with Liverpool expires in the summer, has been on the radar of the Spanish giants for some time.

Earlier attempts to secure a deal in January were blocked by Liverpool, unwilling to lose a player of his calibre mid-season. However, the groundwork had already been laid, and Madrid remained undeterred.

There is an offer in place

As per previous reports, Real Madrid have already offered Alexander-Arnold a five-year contract that would keep him at the club until 2030, underlining their long-term commitment to the player.

From Madrid’s point of view, this is not just a short-term signing—it is a strategic investment in one of world football’s most creative and technically gifted full-backs.

The decision to pursue Alexander-Arnold makes perfect sense. With Dani Carvajal approaching the twilight of his career and concerns around squad depth at right-back, Madrid are preparing for the next evolution of their backline.

Alexander-Arnold’s attacking instincts, pinpoint passing, and vision would offer a new dimension to Madrid’s right flank.

A perfect fit who could be an instant hit

From a stylistic point of view, Alexander-Arnold fits the profile of the modern Madrid full-back.

He is someone who can dictate the tempo, swing in dangerous crosses, and slot into midfield phases—tactics that Ancelotti has been known to deploy.

While the deal isn’t yet official, the message to Ancelotti since March has been clear: Alexander-Arnold will be a Madrid player next season.

If all goes according to plan, Real Madrid will once again pull off a top-tier signing on a free transfer, proving once more that patience and planning often trump panic buys.
