Dani Carvajal has been labelled a dark horse as the footballing fraternity gears up for the Ballon d’Or gala, where the likes of Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham will emerge as favourites.

Carvajal, after all, is coming on the back of a sensational season that saw him help Real Madrid secure their record 15th Champions League title, with the defender producing a stellar display in the final.

Carvajal also won the European Championship with Spain in the summer, adding another feature to his cap.

Following his successful season, Real Madrid are keen on extending his contract at the club, which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Carvajal likely to pen new deal

A recent report from Daily Briefing has offered another update on this matter, suggesting that Carvajal’s contract extension could now only be a matter of formality.

Indeed, the veteran Spaniard is expected to renew his contract at Santiago Bernabeu and continue for another season at his beloved club.

Carvajal himself has pledged his loyalty to Real Madrid in recent weeks, which could serve as a massive boost for the club as they look to avoid another Nacho Fernandez scenario.

What about Trent Alexander-Arnold?

Even if Carvajal ends up prolonging his stay at Bernabeu, however, Real Madrid appear to have plotted out a succession plan.

Indeed, the Spanish giants are eyeing a Bosman move for Liverpool star Trent-Alexander Arnold next summer, with the Englishman reportedly rejecting the idea of continuing his stay at Anfield.

Alexandre Arnold’s potential inclusion could make things interesting, as he would be a direct challenge for Carvajal in the right-back position.

This could ultimately foster healthy competition while taking the load off of Carvajal, who has been forced to start almost every game due to the club’s alarming lack of depth in the fullback positions.
