Real Madrid’s defensive planning has taken centre stage once again, with injuries and lack of depth forcing the club to examine short-term solutions very carefully.
Interestingly, a recent revelation from Fichajes has shed light on one such option, reporting that Los Blancos have already made contact to understand the situation of Abdukodir Khusanov, currently on the books at Manchester City.
The outlet mentions that this approach fits neatly into Real Madrid’s current roadmap, which prioritises temporary reinforcements capable of delivering immediate impact without compromising long-term planning.
With the defence stretched thin and rotation options limited, Khusanov’s name has surfaced as a potential market opportunity that ticks several important boxes.
Despite his reputation, Khusanov has barely featured under Pep Guardiola.
The competition for places and the tactical demands at the Etihad have left him on the fringes, limiting his opportunities to develop through regular match minutes.
City are fully aware of the situation. There is an understanding that prolonged inactivity could stall the defender’s progress.

As a result, the idea of a loan move is gaining traction, particularly if it allows the player to perform at the highest level.
A destination like Real Madrid is viewed as ideal from City’s perspective, given the competitive environment and the exposure it would provide.
From Madrid’s side, the interest is measured. The club has informed City of their curiosity about the player, but there is no intention to rush into a permanent commitment.
A loan would allow Real Madrid to evaluate Khusanov in a demanding setting before considering any future steps. At this stage, a mandatory purchase clause is not part of the discussion.
The urgency behind this exploration is clear, as Eder Militao and David Alaba are both sidelined, leaving Xabi Alonso with only three senior defensive options.
That lack of depth has raised concerns inside the club, particularly with decisive fixtures approaching.
