The night against Sevilla was supposed to be another routine step forward for Real Madrid, but it ended up leaving an uncomfortable aftertaste, especially for Vinicius Jr.

The Brazilian forward found himself at the centre of attention for all the wrong reasons after being heavily booed by sections of the Santiago Bernabeu crowd during the closing stages of the match.

With 84 minutes on the clock, Xabi Alonso decided to withdraw Vinicius, replacing him with Gonzalo Garcia. What followed was striking.

As Vinicius made his way off the pitch, the atmosphere shifted sharply. The boos grew louder, harsher, and more sustained than anything heard previously that night.

The forward’s reaction was telling. He walked slowly towards the bench, face expressionless, serious, almost distant, even if fully aware of what was unfolding around him.

It was a rare moment at the Bernabeu, a stadium that has often embraced Vinicius as one of its most decisive match-winners in recent seasons.

The match itself ended in a 2-0 win for Real Madrid against Sevilla, but Vinicius’ individual performance fell short of his usual standards.

With La Liga action now paused until the new year, Vinicius chose to step away almost immediately.

Just hours after leaving the stadium, the Brazilian boarded a flight to Dubai, where Real Madrid players are set to take part in pre-planned promotional and social media commitments following a demanding 2025 calendar.

Before departing, however, Vinicius sent a subtle but powerful signal.

After heading down to the dressing room, he changed his social media profile picture, removing an image of himself in a Real Madrid shirt and replacing it with one wearing the Brazilian national team jersey.

The post appeared to reflect his state of mind. Several teammates attempted to calm the situation with supportive comments, though the tension was clearly visible.

The speed of his departure surprised many. While such trips are usually scheduled well in advance, the timing, coming so soon after the boos at the Bernabeu, sparked debate among supporters.

For some, it was a needed mental reset after a draining year. For others, it raised questions about the growing pressure Vinicius is facing at the club level.
