With the winter transfer window just around the corner, Real Madrid scouts are already hard at work trying to find the next gem in European football.

Although after Endrick’s loan move to Lyon, Los Blancos are not expected to make any more moves in the January transfer market, that hasn’t stopped them from monitoring a few young talents across Europe.

One of the players Real Madrid are scouting closely is Honest Ahanor, a defensive prodigy from Atalanta.

The next big thing in Serie A?

According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid have sent scouts to keep a close eye on Ahanor, who, at just 17, has become a first-team component at Atalanta.

A centre-back by trade, Ahanor has impressed onlookers with his composure, speed and agility at the back, leading many to call him the next big defensive prodigy in Italy.

At just 17, Ahanor has already featured in 13 competitive matches for Atalanta. It appears he has vindicated the club’s decision to spend €17 million on a player who had made just six competitive appearances for his previous club, Genoa.

How will Ahanor fit into Real Madrid?

Apart from his age and potential, what makes Ahanor an exciting prospect for Real Madrid is the versatility he offers at the back.

The youngster is capable of operating as a centre-back as well as a full-back, making him an ideal addition to a Real Madrid defence that has lacked depth in recent years.

Furthermore, with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba’s contracts expiring soon, Ahanor could prove to be an excellent long-term investment for Los Blancos.

That being said, Ahanor has just moved to Atalanta for a fortune and it is unlikely the club would want to part ways with the player anytime soon, especially given that his contract doesn’t expire until 2028.
