In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Real Madrid have identified Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate as their main target for next summer. It is believed that Los Blancos are trying to sign the French centre-back on a free transfer when his contract at the Merseyside club runs out at the end of this campaign.
Konate has made an inconsistent start to this Premier League campaign, but has done well to put in a series of impressive displays for the Reds on the defensive end of the field. The France international has featured in ten matches for Liverpool this season across all fronts.
The 26-year-old has proven his worth as a solid presence when defending inside his half after he made 11 tackles, five blocks, five interceptions and 39 clearances in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing the ball based on his pass completion rate of 91.5% in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at Anfield is set to run out at the end of this campaign, which could open the door for Los Blancos to sign him on a free transfer next summer.

Konate is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to make some important interceptions for his side on the defensive third of the pitch. He usually clears his lines when required and excels at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.94m, the French sensation is a strong presence in the air as well. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in La Liga if Real Madrid manage to acquire his services next summer.
We can expect Konate to add more bite and steel to Los Blancos head coach Xabi Alonso’s defence. He has what it takes to fight for regular first-team football at the Madrid club over the next few years.
At 26, Konate has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a worthy target for Los Blancos to pursue in 2026. Furthermore, he will be available on a free transfer next summer. Thus, Alonso should focus on bringing him on board soon.
