That is according to reports in Spain, who claim there was talk of a contract extension for the Frenchman with the Reds, but an agreement could not be reached and therefore, he will depart when his deal officially expires on June 30.

Konate joined Liverpool in the summer of 2021 from RB Leipig and has gone on to make 183 appearances for the club, winning the Premier League, the FA Cup and two Carabao Cups during a five-year period.

While, Konate has been linked with several top teams in Europe, it has been widely reported that an agreement with Real Madrid has already been struck.

It is predicated on the fact that Florentino Perez is re-elected as Real Madrid club president - the election is on Sunday and Perez is a heavy favourite, so the deal could be done in a matter of days as Konate prepares for the World cup with France.

The defender posted an emotional farewell message to Liverpool on his Instagram, including a tribute to Diogo Jota who tragically died last year and confirming that he was perhaps looking for a contract extension at the end of the season.

“Representing this club has been an honour,” Konate shared.

“We’ve shared incredible moments together… highs and lows, trophies, challenges, lifelong friendships, and heart breaking moments that will stay with us forever, none more painful than losing our brother Diogo.

“I am deeply saddened that I didn’t get the chance to say goodbye to all of you at the last game.

“At that moment, I didn’t know it would be my final time wearing this shirt in front of you.”
