Real Madrid travel to Mestalla this weekend to take on Valencia and secure three more difficult points in the La Liga title race, but do so without Jude Bellingham who is injured, and Vinicius Jr. who is suspended.

While the manager has resources to cope with both absences, it was Rodrygo in particular who was seen to be best placed to start at Mestalla in place of Vinicius.

After all, he has not enjoyed as much prominence under Alvaro Arbeloa as he would have hoped for, especially with Franco Mastantuono emerging as the manager’s preferred option on the right wing.

Another setback

Now, as confirmed by AS in a recent update, Rodrygo Goes has suffered yet another physical setback and is a doubt for the game against Valencia.

The player suffered an overload during the intense recovery sessions conducted by Antonio Pintus and is nursing discomfort in his left leg as a result of the same.

He did not train with the group yesterday and today and only worked inside the club facilities, and his participation this weekend is being called into serious doubt.

There is still time, and it is only after Saturday’s session that a final call will be taken on who travels and who does not make it in time for the game at Mestalla. As it stands, however, the signs do not look promising for the Brazilian.

So far this season, Rodrygo has scored just one goal and provided three assists in 18 appearances for Real Madrid. Of them, however, only six were starts.

His fitness now limits his participation this week, and considering that he is already suspended from the team’s two UEFA Champions League clashes this month, he will likely not see much participation in February as a whole.
