Sunderland are gearing up for a pivotal summer window after a successful Premier League return, with Régis Le Bris confident the club are well set thanks to Florent Ghisolfi's behind the scenes restructure.
According to Sunderland Echo, Ghisolfi arrived last summer, led a major recruitment drive, then overhauled the department, installing a new scouting team assessing targets for this window and beyond. Scouts track multiple leagues, convening every two or three months, with another meeting held last week.
Le Bris noted Ghisolfi joined late in last year's window, so the immediate focus was output. He said Ghisolfi has since had 10 months to build structure, is tightly linking recruitment with training and competition, and he believes a smoother workflow for the next window is likely.
The head coach remains fixed on the run-in but will soon feed his views into recruitment meetings. He thinks Sunderland will be ready to execute their plan, while stressing the market remains unpredictable.
Back-to-back defeats have reduced, but not ended, hopes of European qualification, which could demand a larger squad. Le Bris said this scenario has not been specifically planned for, yet he is not worried and the club would adapt if required.
Ghisolfi, speaking earlier this month, said Sunderland will try to improve the team this summer but that stability is paramount. He outlined a sustainable model, adding Premier League revenues mean they do not need to sell, though players may move as cycles evolve and pathways for young talent are maintained.
