Renato Veiga fronted a fan event in Vila-real and underlined a team-first outlook, playing down talk of third place as Villarreal prepare for Getafe.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, about 100 supporters queued at the Halcón Viajes store in the town hall square, with Veiga arriving before Nicolas Pepe, who came roughly 30 minutes later.
The Portuguese centre-back, a headline summer signing after a 24.5 million plus five in variables agreement with Chelsea, greeted fans and fielded questions in near-fluent Spanish, repeatedly stressing the collective over individuals.
With Villarreal fourth, level on points with Atlético Madrid and holding a game in hand, he said working after wins is easier and that the squad trust the manager's plan, aiming to repeat the Espanyol display.
He cautioned that Getafe away is a difficult assignment, noting leading sides have suffered there, and said Villarreal must impose their game to target three points.
On ambitions, he focused only on winning the next matches before looking at the table, and he deferred any personal assessment of his first season until the end.
He added that the Champions League schedule has not affected them, saying they try to win every match and give everything. Juan Foyth's serious injury has increased his responsibility in a young defence with Pau Navarro, 20, and Rafa Marín, 21.
He also pointed to Dani, Juan and Gerard as the most experienced voices, whose advice helps maintain a strong dressing-room atmosphere, while insisting responsibility is shared.
