After securing a maiden Champions League qualification, Como are looking to spend big this summer to build a competitive squad. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Cesc Fabregas’ men have tabled a €25 million offer for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
Como won’t settle for just one high-profile deal. Fresh off striking a deal with Real Madrid for Nico Paz, they’re ready to make another marquee signing. Indeed, Fabregas is desperate to strengthen his defense after Diego Carlos returned to Fenerbahce at the end of his loan spell.
Therefore, Como have identified Chalobah as a potential reinforcement. Currently away on World Cup duty with England, the 26-year-old could leave the Premier League in the coming weeks. With two years left to run on his contract at Stamford Bridge, the Blues are open to cashing in on their academy graduate.
Como’s initial bid may not be enough to convince Chelsea to sell Chalobah, as they’ve slapped a €30m price tag on the English defender. However, the gap is not unbridgeable by any stretch of the imagination, and given the Italian side’s financial prowess, there’s every chance they’ll push hard to get this deal over the line.
Fabregas needs a technically gifted center-back, and Chalobah ticks all the boxes. Last season, he boasted an impressive 90% passing success rate, making him a natural fit for Como’s build-from-the-back philosophy. Furthermore, with 117 Premier League appearances under his belt, he’d bring experience to this young team.
Previously linked with Milan, Chalobah could finally complete his long-awaited move to Serie A, where his profile appears tailor-made for Fabregas’ style of play. He would be another statement signing for Como.
