Liverpool’s summer planning appears to be taking them towards the Principality, where AS Monaco have become a club of growing interest to those shaping the next phase at Anfield. GFFN, reporting from L’Équipe, have highlighted Liverpool’s interest in Maghnes Akliouche, but another Monaco name now carries real intrigue, Lamine Camara.
At 22, the Senegal international represents exactly the type of profile Liverpool have often admired, young, athletic, technically secure and still with headroom. GFFN’s report states that “As Liverpool prepare for a rebuild this summer, the Merseyside club are paying particular attention to AS Monaco.” That attention may now extend beyond one attacking target and into the midfield department.
Camara joined Monaco from FC Metz two years ago and has developed impressively in Ligue 1. He is not simply a runner in midfield. He has bite, energy, tactical discipline and the ability to progress play, qualities that would appeal to a Liverpool side needing greater control and intensity in central areas.
The article notes that “the Senegal international has excelled at Monaco and was one of the key players for Senegal at the recent Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).” That is important context. Tournament football often exposes temperament as much as talent. Camara’s ability to impose himself for club and country suggests a player accustomed to responsibility.

Liverpool need midfielders who can handle pressure, cover ground and make clean decisions. Camara fits that broad sporting logic.
As with Akliouche, Monaco’s willingness to sell appears conditional rather than desperate. GFFN report that “Like Akliouche, Camara is one of the players that will be allowed to leave the club in the event that the Principality club’s valuation is met this summer.”
That sentence should frame Liverpool’s thinking. This will not be a cut price opportunity. Camara’s contract runs until 2029, giving Monaco strong negotiating power and little need to compromise unless the offer is compelling.
For Liverpool, that means recruitment clarity is essential. If Camara is viewed as a genuine midfield priority, they must move with conviction. If he is one name among several, Monaco’s position may make the deal difficult.
Liverpool are not alone. The most striking line from the GFFN report is clear: “There is interest from Liverpool whilst Newcastle United, a more long-term admirer, remain in the race as the summer transfer window approaches.”
Newcastle’s admiration matters. They have tracked physical, aggressive midfielders for some time, and Camara would suit their intensity. GFFN add that “He features particularly highly on the Tyneside club’s shortlist,” which suggests Liverpool may need to act decisively if their interest becomes serious.

This is where transfer strategy becomes a test of timing. Liverpool cannot afford to drift through the early summer while rivals build momentum. A rebuild demands sharp judgement, not passive monitoring.
Liverpool’s midfield has too often looked caught between ideas, with moments of energy but not always enough authority. Camara could provide a useful blend. He can help press, recover, circulate possession and bring that competitive edge which often defines successful Premier League midfielders.
He would not arrive as a finished article, nor should he be sold as one. At 22, he would need adaptation time, tactical coaching and the right midfield partners. Yet the raw ingredients are enticing.
There is also a wider pattern here. If Liverpool are looking seriously at Monaco, they are shopping in a market that has repeatedly produced elite talent. Akliouche offers creativity. Camara offers drive and balance. Together, they point to a recruitment department seeking players who can reshape the team’s rhythm.
Credit to GFFN for bringing this L’Équipe report into wider focus. Camara may not yet be the headline name of Liverpool’s summer, but he could become one of its most intelligent targets.
For Liverpool supporters, this is an interesting one because Lamine Camara feels like the type of player the squad could genuinely use. The midfield needs more than names. It needs balance, durability and players who can handle transitions without leaving huge gaps behind them.
Camara’s age is a big part of the appeal. At 22, he is young enough to be shaped, but experienced enough to have played meaningful football for Monaco and Senegal. That matters. Liverpool cannot keep signing players who need two years before they are trusted. They need footballers who can contribute quickly while still improving.
The Newcastle angle is also worth watching. If he is high on their shortlist, Liverpool cannot assume this will remain available all summer. Newcastle have a clear identity, and Camara would suit them. That should sharpen minds at Anfield.
The big question is price. With a contract until 2029, Monaco hold the cards. If the valuation climbs too high, Liverpool must be disciplined. Yet if the deal is realistic, Camara could be a smart addition to a midfield that needs legs, bite and better structure.
This is the type of rumour that feels plausible, useful and worth tracking.
