Liverpool’s goalkeeping department could soon become one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer stories, with CaughtOffside reporting growing interest in Sunderland’s Robin Roefs.
At 23, the Dutchman fits the modern recruitment profile, young, improving, commanding and potentially attainable before his price soars. Liverpool’s stance remains clear, they would prefer to keep Alisson. Yet succession planning is not disloyalty, it is diligence.
CaughtOffside report that Roefs is “very well thought of inside Anfield”, with Liverpool’s interest described as “concrete and getting stronger.” That matters. This is not loose scouting chatter, but a potential contingency plan should Juventus push seriously for Alisson.

“Roefs has won himself a lot of admirers with his performances at Sunderland,” one source said. “Liverpool are open to bringing in a new ‘keeper if Alisson leaves, and he’s someone they’re really keen on. Chelsea will be there too, but Liverpool want to be first.”
That final line carries weight. Liverpool do not want to be reactive if the market accelerates.
Chelsea’s interest adds urgency. Robert Sanchez has not fully convinced, and Stamford Bridge may soon seek a new number one. Mike Maignan has been linked, although CaughtOffside state those links are not concrete as things stand.
For Liverpool, Roefs would not merely be a replacement name on a list. He would represent a strategic move, especially if Alisson’s future becomes uncertain.
If Alisson stays, this deal feels difficult. Liverpool already have elite quality in goal, and Roefs would surely want a pathway to regular football. If Alisson leaves, the landscape changes instantly.
A reported valuation of around £35m is significant, but not outrageous for a young goalkeeper with Premier League potential and international pedigree at Netherlands Under-21 level.
From a sceptical Liverpool supporter’s perspective, this feels like the kind of rumour that demands caution rather than hysteria. Alisson remains one of the greatest goalkeepers in Liverpool’s history, and replacing him cannot be treated like a tidy spreadsheet exercise.
Roefs may be talented, and the Sunderland performances clearly appear to have caught serious attention, but Anfield is different. Every cross carries pressure. Every pass into midfield is judged. Every mistake becomes a headline.
There is also the wider question of priorities. Liverpool under Arne Slot need clarity across several areas, and spending £35m on a goalkeeper only makes sense if Alisson genuinely departs. If not, it risks creating noise around a position that has long been a source of rare certainty.
That said, Liverpool cannot be asleep while Chelsea circle. If the recruitment team truly believe Roefs is an elite keeper in waiting, moving early could be smart business. The fear is obvious, lose Alisson, hesitate, then watch Chelsea win the race.
For now, this feels like sensible monitoring with a sharper edge. Liverpool should plan, but they should not panic.
