Desperate to bounce back from last season’s fiasco, Milan are looking to heavily reinforce their squad in the summer. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Marseille midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be an unlikely midfield addition for the Rossoneri.

Adrien Rabiot’s future at San Siro is hanging by a thread amid Massimiliano Allegri’s efforts to take the Frenchman to Napoli. Meanwhile, Youssouf Fofana could also be on his way out, while Milan have been unable to persuade Luka Modric to sign a new contract.

Therefore, new boss Ruben Amorim is at risk of finding himself strapped for reliable midfield options. Modric’s exit has left a gaping hole in the middle of the park, forcing Milan to accelerate their search for reinforcements. One of the names on the club’s shortlist appears to be Hojbjerg.

Our take on Milan & Hojbjerg

Hojbjerg’s contract at the Stade Velodrome runs until 2028. However, the Danish star could leave Marseille in the coming months despite completing his permanent move from Tottenham Hotspur only last summer.

The 30-year-old established himself as a permanent first-team fixture last season, making 43 appearances in all competitions. Despite playing in front of the defense, Hojbjerg registered five goals and five assists.

Furthermore, Hojbjerg and Rabiot shared the dressing room at Marseille for a year before the latter decided to leave Ligue 1 and join Milan last summer. Their on-field understanding and complementary profiles could make the Dane an ideal addition.

Still, there’s no chance Marseille would let their first-team stalwart leave for a bargain fee. Instead, Milan may have to allocate substantial resources to complete this transfer.
