Hugo Rincón reports for medical tests on Monday convinced his time on loan at Mirandés and Girona has done its job, and that he is prepared to compete for Athletic’s right-back berth.
The Valtierra full-back has been training on his own to start pre-season in peak condition, so Terzic can assess him early. As reported by as.com, the German coach also likes him.
Rincón has his sights set on succeeding with Athletic, rather than another loan. He offers talent, attacking versatility and the tools to compete despite Gorosabel and Areso in his position. Neither the club nor his representatives have shopped him around.
His effectiveness has been shown with CD Mirandés under Lisci in the Segunda, where he played 44 matches and scored four goals, reaching the promotion play-offs. At Girona in the Primera División he featured in 35 games and scored one goal. His release clause stands at 30 million.
Rincón’s contract runs to June 2028 and the club intended to extend it by two years before his Girona loan. A fresh attempt was made around March, but his agents chose to wait, and the issue could be reactivated. He is not on the market, yet several foreign clubs have tempted him, while Mallorca and Alavés tried last summer, and Girona sought to sign him before the unexpected relegation.
