Régis Le Bris is weighing a move to restore Enzo Le Fée to a central role as Sunderland face Wolves this weekend, and says he is not worried about Habib Diarra’s confidence.
Diarra was withdrawn in the second half of last Friday’s 5-0 loss at Nottingham Forest, a week after a late miss against Aston Villa, after impressing against Spurs. According to Sunderland Echo, Le Bris said the team struggled across the board in that defeat.
He said Diarra feels strong and is not viewed as fragile. Le Bris wants extra competition in midfield and out wide as Jocelin Ta, Bertrand Traore and Nilson Angulo step up their recoveries in the next fortnight.
The head coach is also considering moving Le Fée inside before the season ends, which could prompt midfield rotation. He has discussed it with both Diarra and Le Fée.
Le Bris views Le Fée’s best role as a midfielder, either as a 10 or an 8, and says returning wingers would increase options. He added he could start Le Fée at 10, then later use Rigg or Diarra there to pose different problems.
On availability, he indicated Jocelin is likely to be ready this weekend, with calls on Traore and Angulo to be made either now or next week. Manchester United’s visit to the Stadium of Light next weekend may be the more realistic return for the latter two.
