Robert Lewandowski will leave Barcelona and join Chicago Fire in the United States, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Poland striker’s contract ends this summer and he is set for a move outside Europe’s major leagues to one of America’s biggest cities.

Lewandowski has played 46 games this season, scoring 19 goals, figures that underline his enduring output at 37.

He has left a cascade of goals across Barcelona, Munich and Dortmund. In Chicago, he will be the star at Soldier Field for a team aiming to raise its profile in the league.

The Fire squad includes Hugo Cuypers and Jonathan Bamba, both with European experience. With more than 500 career goals, Lewandowski follows a path chosen by many European players late in their careers, most recently Antoine Griezmann in Orlando.
