Santos are close to confirming the signing of Rony after the 30-year-old spent Thursday at CT Rei Pelé for medical commitments. He arrived in São Paulo on Wednesday before heading to the Baixada Santista training base.
According to Globo.com, the forward will join for three million euros, plus bonuses, from Atlético-MG. The club are awaiting complementary documents from Galo before announcing the deal, and he will have a three-season contract after passing his medical.
Rony is expected to play wide, initially as a replacement for Guilherme, who is moving to the United States.
Santos exercised patience over the deal as other clubs showed interest, including Corinthians.
If completed, Rony would be Santos' third addition of the year. That follows the loan of Gabigol involving Cruzeiro and a deal that saw Flamengo sell Victor Hugo to Atlético-MG, with Gabriel Menino arriving at Santos, who had Victor on loan.
Santos also expect to recruit another midfielder and a left-back, and to review their defence after some unconvincing performances.
