Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United has become a centre of speculation following the club’s disastrous start to the new season.

The Red Devils are out of the Carabao Cup after losing to fourth-tier Grimsby Town, while they are languishing in 14th in the Premier League with two wins from six matches.

United face Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday and a defeat could spell the end of Amorim’s reign in Manchester.

However, The Athletic’s David Ornstein claims the club are not planning to sack the Portuguese.

Ornstein also dismissed suggestions that Amorim is planning to walk away from the role.

Both parties know that results must improve but United bosses still fully support Amorim.

The former Sporting CP boss took over from Erik ten Hag midway through the 2024-25 season. He failed to make an immediate impact at Old Trafford, as the club went on to finish 15th in the Premier League.

Although Amorim guided his side to the Europa League final last season, where they eventually lost to Tottenham Hotspur.

INEOS decided to stick with the 40-year-old, realising he needed time and a full pre-season to implement his ideas.

But despite being backed with a summer investment of over £200 million, United have not seen a significant improvement. They have collected just seven points from six top-flight matches, conceding 11 goals and scoring just seven.

Amorim is an excellent manager who worked wonders at Sporting, but his system is clearly not working in the Premier League and he is unwilling to adapt or change his tactics.
