Rui Costa and Benfica’s hierarchy are set to take a conservative approach to this window, with the 2026 World Cup and an early season start driving a focus on stability in the first weeks. According to Glorioso 1904, the intention is to keep most players available until official competition begins.
The priority is to give Marco Silva, who is increasingly close to taking charge, time to assess the squad before firm decisions on departures.
Sidny Cabral is likely to be a rare exception. Despite publicly expressing a wish to stay, the Cape Verdean is very close to joining Trabzonspor. The clubs have virtually agreed a fee of about 12 million euros, 10+2, with part going to Estrela da Amadora, who retained a percentage.
Henrique Araújo could also be cleared to move early. Others previously earmarked for exits are likely to stay for now. Georgiy Sudakov and Bruma will be reassessed by the incoming coach, and both are expected to start pre-season with the group.
Attention has turned to reinforcements, with a centre-back viewed as the priority after Nicolás Otamendi’s departure and with Tomás Araújo involved in the 2026 World Cup. While youngsters Gonçalo Oliveira, Joshua Wynder and João Fonseca are being closely monitored, Benfica want an experienced, preferably left-footed central defender.
