Santos are close to renewing goalkeeper João Pedro’s contract, with a five-season deal lined up and salaries agreed. Only performance targets and bonuses are still to be finalised.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the football department has matched the figures requested by his representatives and is building a sporting plan for the 18-year-old.

The plan is for him to join the senior group while retaining minutes at youth level. If Brazão is sold, he would become second choice to Diógenes, ahead of Rodrigo Falcão, who has aged out of the academy.

His current deal runs to April 2027, and the club view him as a major prospect, hence the push to extend. An addendum improving his terms was signed in September last year.

A regular in Brazil’s youth squads, he was called to the Under-20s this year. Last season he saved penalties at the Under-17 World Cup and won the South American title at that age group.

He turned 18 in March and was not registered for the Copinha, to prioritise a pathway into the first team. To keep sharp he has featured for the Under-20s. Standing at two metres, he is yet to debut for the seniors but has been included in competition squads.

In 2024 he was on the bench in Série B against Amazonas, Mirassol, Vila Nova and Paysandu. This year he was among the substitutes against Palmeiras in the Paulistão and Coritiba in the Copa do Brasil.
