Santos have had their Fifa transfer ban lifted after settling a debt with Arouca, and can now register midfielder Christian Oliva.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the payment related to defender João Basso’s signing in August 2023, with interest taking the sum to about 2.67 million euros. Santos had paid only the first instalment, the dispute moved from Fifa to the TAS, which on 12 January gave the club 45 days to settle or face sanctions, which duly followed.

With the restriction removed, Santos are racing to complete Oliva’s paperwork before the transfer window closes next Tuesday. His contract is agreed and he has been in Brazil for two weeks, but the ban meant he could not be registered for the Paulistão quarter-finals.

The club are pushing to finalise his registration in time for the Brasileirão. The CBF is expected to allow an exceptional window for clubs to sign players who are out of contract.

Santos have already added Gabriel Menino and Gabriel Barbosa on loan, and signed Rony and Moisés on permanent deals.
