Santos have begun terminating the contracts of João Basso and Tomás Rincón on Wednesday, part of a mid-season squad overhaul.

According to Diario Do Peixe, both still had active deals but had seen little action in recent matches.

Basso joined in 2023 from Arouca, and the club must settle payment to the Portuguese side by 26 February to avoid possible sanctions, including a transfer ban.

He featured until injury, then returned for the run-in of that Brasileiro, including the match that sealed relegation. In 2024 he was loaned to Estoril, returned mid-year, and was reintegrated for Série B.

Last year he featured early but fell out of favour after July, returning after almost seven months against São Paulo at Vila on 4 February. He then faced Athletico-PR and was involved in the move for the losing goal. Under contract until year end, he has 36 appearances and 3 goals.

Rincón arrived in August 2023 as a free agent after spells in Italy with Juventus and Sampdoria, took the captaincy and played 16 matches in the relegation fight.

He accepted a pay cut for Série B in early 2024, then in August 2025 extended to December 2026. He earns around R$ 500,000 a month, including salary, signing-on fee and image rights. Despite that, he lost minutes in 2025 and has only seven minutes in the 2026 Campeonato Paulista, taking him to 72 games, 2 goals, one assist, 13 bookings and around 3,333 minutes.
