According to Globo.com, Santos will receive R$ three million in CBF prize money after clinching a Copa do Brasil last-16 place with a 2-0 win at Coritiba in Paraná on Wednesday.
That payment adds to R$ two million for participation in the fifth phase, the first stage the club played this year, taking their guaranteed total in the competition to R$ five million.
The squad has been dealing with delayed wages and image rights. In April, during a Copa Sudamericana trip to Ecuador, senior players met club officials to seek explanations over debts. The board then cleared one month of overdue image rights and the CLT salary.
This week fresh arrears emerged, with one month of CLT wages and two months of image rights outstanding. Ahead of the Coritiba match, the club paid the players’ salaries. Two months of image rights remain unpaid, with no set date to settle them amid monthly cash flow strain.
The last 16 will be played only after the World Cup. Reaching the quarter-finals could bring a further R$ four million.
Focus now turns to the Campeonato Brasileiro, where Santos face Coritiba again on Sunday at 11:00 Brasília time at Neo Química Arena in São Paulo in the 16th round. They are chasing a third straight win this season, last achieved late in last year’s league when they beat Sport, Juventude and Cruzeiro to avoid relegation.
