São Paulo will not negotiate a sale of Marcos Antônio in this window and intend to renew his contract despite Flamengo’s pursuit.
According to Globo.com, the Tricolor rejected multiple approaches and made a gentleman’s agreement to notify Flamengo if they ever choose to open talks, a move aimed at ending the chase.
São Paulo want full control of any future deal, deciding both timing and price. As a courtesy for advance notice, Flamengo could allow the club a larger share of the midfielder’s economic rights in a later transfer, though nothing is defined.
For now, the priority is a new contract for the player, with discussions over a pay rise and an extended term to underline his importance.
From the Rubro-Negro side, Flamengo are preparing another push in the mid-year window, with the player and his representatives giving their assent to continue negotiations.
Several Flamengo players have kept in contact to encourage a move, including conversations with the midfielder during the sides’ meeting in the opening round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
