Saúl steps up recovery after left heel surgery | OneFootball

Saúl Ñíguez has taken a significant step in his comeback from left heel surgery, starting on-field physical work on Thursday.

According to Coluna Do Fla, the Flamengo midfielder had the procedure in early January in Madrid after persistent pain affected his routine. An initial recovery timeframe of about three months was indicated, and he has now moved into the final stage.

Despite this progress, it does not mean an immediate return. There is no set timetable for him to complete this stage and be available for selection.

Saúl arrived from Atlético de Madrid (ESP) in July 2025. Last season he featured in 24 matches and registered two assists.

At the end of last year, he consulted trusted doctors to decide whether surgery was needed. Flamengo head of medical Fernando Sassaki shared information with those specialists, and the final call was the player’s, who opted for the operation.
