Manchester City have received an enquiry from Italy’s top-flight regarding the possibility of recruiting Claudio Echeverri on loan next season, according to reports.
The Argentina international has been integrated into Pep Guardiola’s first-team set-up after finally joining the club officially in January- 12 months on from Manchester City’s transfer agreement with River Plate over the teenager.
The two clubs put pen to paper on a big-money agreement for the playmaker understood to be worth in the region of £12.5 million plus add-ons, whilst also sanctioning a loan stay with River Plate until January 2025.
Upon making the switch over to the Etihad Stadium, Echeverri has had to be patient when it came to on-field and matchday opportunities, not making his debut for the club until the FA Cup Final in May against Crystal Palace at Wembley Stadium.
A cameo appearance towards the end of the contest with Manchester City chasing a goal was then followed up by his Premier League debut on the final weekend of the season, as he once again emerged from the bench to take on Fulham at Craven Cottage.
But with big decisions to be made on several areas of Pep Guardiola’s first-team squad this summer, there is a feeling that Claudio Echeverri could be handed a loan spell in Europe to fast-track his development through competitive action.
According to the information of Italian journalist Nico Schira, Serie A side Como 1907 have now asked Manchester City for information on the possibility of signing Echeverri on loan next season.
There has been success between the two clubs recently on the subject of loan deals being done with Maximo Perrone joining Cesc Fabregas’ ranks for the 2024/25 campaign on a temporary deal – likely to become permanent or see an extension to his season-long loan.
Claudio Echeverri’s own future and prospects within the Manchester City first-team squad may also be directly impacted by the club’s expected transfer business, as club officials look to finalise a move for Lyon playmaker Rayan Cherki in the coming days.
There is also expected to be further arrivals in the central department of Guardiola’s roster as the club continues to pursue a final agreement with AC Milan for Netherlands international Tijjani Reijnders in the coming days.
