Options are being looked at in case the German departs Hillsborough.
A candidate that Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly considering as a potential replacement for current boss Danny Rohl is also being looked at by a number of other clubs - even though he's alreadt contracted to the Owls.
All of the signs are pointing towards an exit for the young German manager.
He made his intentions to leave Wednesday clear in April, as per Rob Staton, but his attempts to find a new opportunity have been largely stifled by the release clause in his contract, which has put off a lot of potential suitors.
Currently, Rohl and the Owls are in talks over a deal that would see the two parties go their separate ways, according to The Star, with a clean break now being preferred to the currently messy situation being dragged out.
Wednesday's pre-season training got underway on Thursday, but Rohl is not thought to have been in attendance as he looks for a way out.
Problems in their preparations have been worsened by some of the club's facilities not being ready for the players' returns, limiting what they could do on the opening day, as per The Star.
While Rohl's current deal still has another two years left on it, his assistants' contracts are set to expire at the end of this month, as per Mike McGrath.
One of them, Henrik Pedersen, is a managerial option that Wednesday are reported to be considering upon the German's seemingly inevitable departure.
The Danish assistant was at Middlewood Road on Thursday to welcome the playing staff back, unlike the current manager, but handing the 47-year-old a promotion won't be easy.
One, because of his suspected contract situation, but also because he is a wanted man.
Other teams in England as well as abroad also like the thought of bringing in the former Union Berlin boss, according to Joe Crann. He was previously linked with joining Leicester City as an assistant, but prospective manager Russell Martin headed to Rangers instead.
His pre-existing connection to the Owls would, in theory, make a deal to boost Pedersen up the Wednesday coaching ranks a bit easier to do than to attract someone from the outside.
However, his experiences at Hillsborough could also push him away from the club given the chaos that has taken place there over recent months.
Players, coaches and other members of staff were not paid their May wages on time, which ultimately led to the three-window transfer ban that any new boss is going to have to deal with.
The frustration that Pedersen and his colleagues will have gone through in this saga, in which some players still haven't been paid properly, could push him away from the opportunity.
