Sheffield Wednesday are battling with Plymouth Argyle and Milton Keynes Dons to sign Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Murphy Cooper.
Sheffield Wednesday are rebuilding ahead of a return to League One and a busy summer transfer window is in store – and their latest link sees them set to compete with Plymouth Argyle and Milton Keynes Dons.
Having entered into administration last year, Sheffield Wednesday were simply trying to survive as a club for the 2025/26 campaign, relegated on zero points, courtesy of a final day victory against West Bromwich Albion at Hillsborough.
The tally didn’t matter, though, as The Owls pulled through with the takeover of the club by Arise Capital Partners LLC, led by new chairman David Storch.
That has been combined with Wednesday not receiving any further points deductions for their League One campaign, leaving a mood of optimism ahead of the new season.
Henrik Pedersen has his work cut out to rebuild the squad and find some cohesion to launch a genuine promotion challenge next season, but the speed of their business has already been encouraging – and now they are looking to secure a new goalkeeper.

According to Alan Nixon, via his Patreon, Sheffield Wednesday are one of three League One clubs trying to sign Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Murphy Cooper.
Nixon has said that QPR have cleared the shot stopper to engage in talks with The Owls, as well as Plymouth Argyle and Milton Keynes Dons.
As Nixon’s report goes on to explain, there is now an expectation that they will lose Pierce Charles, amid suggestions he is returning to Manchester City, and so are looking for a new ‘number one’.
Nixon has said that Plymouth are also looking at other options, linked with Nathan Baxter last week, with MK Dons potentially having the funds to pip both teams to his signature.
24-year-old Cooper had spent time on loan at Swindon Town and Stevenage previously before joining Barnsley last summer. That loan move was cut-short in January, which was followed by him moving across South Yorkshire and to Sheffield Wednesday for the second half of last season in the Championship.

As they seek to build a new squad that can take Sheffield Wednesday forward as a club, they are expected to be very busy this summer after the departures of Nathaniel Chalobah, Dominic Iorfa, Marvelous Nakamba, Zain Silcott-Duberry and Rio Shipston at the end of their contracts.
Both Svante Ingelsson and Olaf Kobacki have also since departed for undisclosed fees to Stoke City and Wisla Plock, respectively.
In terms of incomings, Sheffield Wednesday gave strengthened their defence with the signings of Ricardo Santos, Sil Swinkels and Jordi Liongola all arriving for undisclosed fees from Swansea City, Aston Villa and La Louviere respectively.
Former England youth international Callum Slattery has also moved to Hillsborough, joining the club on a free transfer from Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell.
Links persist over the re-signing of Barry Bannan and Wednesday look to pad out what is a very shallow squad, as highlighted by the fact that Slattery is now their only senior midfielder on the books.
19-year-old academy graduate Logan Stretch looks set to be their only goalkeeper for the time being if Charles’ move is confirmed soon and so the re-signing of Murphy Cooper is surely one that Wednesday will want to get wrapped up as quickly as possible.
