John Textor is reportedly interested in taking over at Derby County.

Searching for a way back into English football, Textor had a bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers rejected and has reportedly been eyeing both Sheffield Wednesday and Derby, alongside multiple other Championship clubs.

Over the weekend, journalist Alan Nixon revealed that he is readying an official bid for the Rams, who have taken priority over Wednesday, who were put into administration last month, bringing an end to the chaotic and controversial Dejphon Chansiri reign.

Football League World's Owls Fan Pundit, Patrick McKenna, has outlined that he isn't too disappointed to see Textor make Derby his priority.

"After the chaos of Chansiri" - Sheffield Wednesday claim made after Textor update

"I suppose I'm not that sorry we're going to miss out on the John Textor show," said Patrick, when asked how he feels following the update.

"Of course, he would have better than Dejphon Chansiri. But undoubtedly, he does seem to cause a lot of controversy and have baggage. It wasn't really an ideal option with all the complications. After the chaos of Chansiri, I am looking for something a lot more steady, and I don't think that Textor would have provided that."

Under his Eagle Football Group, Textor holds majority stakes in the aforementioned Lyon, alongside Brazilian side Botafogo, and Belgian second-tier outfit RWDM Brussels.

The last calendar year has been a controversial one for the American, with Ligue 1 giants Lyon almost relegated to Ligue 2 for financial reasons, while his 43% stake in Crystal Palace prevented the Eagles from playing in the Europa League following their FA Cup win as a result of a conflict of interest due to his ownership of Lyon.

"The fact that he is immediately in for Derby shows that he is desperate for another club, and that he is not fussed as to who that will be, just to add them to his portfolio," Patrick told FLW.

"He was a name that was banded about for a long time, and I suppose pre-administration I would have been in favour of him, but now that we are in a situation with a lot of bidders, the fact that Textor won't be one of them is no bad thing."

Sheffield Wednesday crucially avoid multi-club scheme

For years under Dejphon Chansiri, Sheffield Wednesday were left with no real support at all levels. Earlier this year, the situation finally exploded, with staff going unpaid and a mass exodus over the summer.

The Owls have been given a chance to move on from his vice-like grip and start again. The last thing that supporters would need, is seeing their club become part of a multi-club scheme that could, yet again, see them become less of a priority.

One of the more well-known multi-club examples across Europe is that of the Red Bull pyramid, with RB Leipzig sitting at the top of a food chain containing RB Salzburg and New York Red Bulls, alongside sides in Brazil and Japan.

Though a recent controversial example is that of Strasbourg, who are under the control of the BlueCo group that also own Chelsea. Despite the on-pitch success arriving as a result of talent coming from the West London club, supporters continue to protest regarding the fact that they will always play second fiddle in the eyes of their ownership model.

The simple fact of the matter is that for the clubs in these schemes, there is always a ceiling. This is something that Sheffield Wednesday had to crucially avoid as they look to enter a new era.

The Owls are one of English football's sleeping giants, and deserve a fresh start with themselves as the central focus, after years of mismanagement.
