Spanish media turned on Kylian Mbappé after his remarks aimed at coach Alvaro Arbeloa and his display in Real Madrid’s 2-0 win over Oviedo on Thursday.
After three weeks out with a hamstring issue, he came on as a substitute at the Bernabéu and was booed. In the mixed zone he criticised being left on the bench despite feeling at 100 percent, saying Arbeloa had told him he was the fourth forward behind Gonzalo Garcia, Vinicius and Mastantuono.
Arbeloa responded at his press conference, saying Mbappé had misunderstood and that he alone decides who is fit to play.
As described a new war and led with La Bronca Final on its front page, saying Mbappé broke with protocol to deliver his messages and bemoaning a season ending in such fashion.
Marca said the Bernabéu does not forgive and that Mbappé clashed with Arbeloa, criticising his attitude and apparent indifference before and after he came on. It argued the Bernabéu had turned against him over his behaviour, adding Madrid supporters have always hated divas and that it is now on him to repair a relationship with his coach that appeared damaged at full time.
Barcelona dailies Mundo Deportivo and Sport struck a more measured tone, with Sport branding it an Mbappé fire and suggesting the worst might still be to come. On radio, El Larguero emphasised Arbeloa’s authority, arguing he is entitled to use Mbappé as he chooses and that some players believe they call the shots.
