Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Maite Oroz has sustained an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

The Lilywhites confirmed the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

The 27-year-old Spanish international midfielder sustained the injury during the club’s Subway Women’s League Cup group stage fixture against Birmingham City at the BetWright Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Oroz started the match for Spurs but she had to be replaced by teammate Olga Ahtinen just after the hour mark.

Oroz’s injury has now been assessed by the Spurs medical team and it has been confirmed that the player has ruptured her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The player will soon undergo surgery before beginning a lengthy period of rehabilitation. Oroz will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Spurs signed Oroz in summer 2024 after the player left Spanish finetwork Liga F club Real Madrid. The midfielder is under contract with the North Londoners until summer 2024.

News of Oroz’s injury is a disappointing blow for Spurs who have started the season exceptionally well under the guidance of new boss Martin Ho. The club will support the player throughout her rehabilitation with Oroz hoping to make a full recovery during the second half of 2026.
