St Louis City have tied down their newest manager as the club have announced the hire of former Aston Villa and Sweden defender Olof Mellberg.
The Swede will replace Bradley Carnell, who was sacked in July after a disappointing start to the 2024 MLS season.
Mellberg is currently the coach of Swedish outfit Mellber IF Brommapojkarna, but with his contract set to expire on December 1, he will join St Louis before the end of 2024.
"I am excited to join St Louis as the head coach,” said Mellberg. “It is a great opportunity here because of the amazing infrastructure and the direction that the organization has put in place.
"I can’t wait to build upon the foundation already set here and the massive fan support that gives this team the energy to be successful."
While they missed out on the MLS Cup Playoffs, St. Louis City do have some positivity heading into the 2025 campaign after standout performances from summer signings Simon Becher, Marcel Hartel, and Cedric Teuchert.
