George Hirst struck in the third minute to set Ipswich Town on course for a 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers.
The centre-forward reacted quickest in the six-yard box, pouncing on a loose ball and finishing from close range to give the Tractor Boys instant control. His movement across the near post dragged defenders out of shape and opened the gap.
Moments later, he turned provider, laying the ball into Jaden Philogene's path for the second (9.). The timing of his pass from the inside left channel kept the attack flowing and punished a retreating back line.
After the restart he stayed dangerous, forcing a high save with a right-footed effort from distance (46.). He continued to knit play together, dropping in to connect midfield and attack and occupying centre-backs when Ipswich pushed the ball wide.
Hirst finished with two attempts on target, one goal and one assist, plus six successful final third passes. He also won two aerials and regained possession three times, a mix that underlined why his hold-up play and penalty-box instincts tilted the game towards the Tractor Boys.
The display capped a day in which the Tractor Boys rose from third to second in the Championship table.
