Valencia have triggered a two-year extension to Stole Dimitrievski’s contract, keeping the North Macedonia goalkeeper at Mestalla until June 2028, the club said in a statement.

The 32-year-old had been benched after loanee Julen Agirrezabala arrived, then reclaimed the shirt following the Basque keeper’s injury and kept it on merit as Valencia chased Europe.

Across the second half of the league season he conceded 24 goals, a record bettered only by Getafe, Barcelona, Madrid, Rayo and Betis.

To activate the clause, Valencia paid close to half a million euros and slightly increased his wages. The decision means the club will not take up the purchase option on Agirrezabala, and for now Rivero is the only senior back-up.

Since joining in 2024, Dimitrievski has made 33 appearances in LaLiga and the Copa del Rey, with five clean sheets that all ended in victories over Getafe, Levante, Osasuna, Sevilla and Athletic.

After LaLiga finished he featured in friendlies against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Türkiye for his country, and will return to club duty after his holidays. He is set to begin pre-season as first choice.
