Strasbourg will face Nice in Wednesday’s Coupe de France semi-final with several regulars in line to return after heavy rotation in the 0-3 defeat by Rennes.
According to L'Équipe, Gary O'Neil ran through a lengthy injury list, citing Mathis Amougou’s right-ankle twist, Ismaël Doukouré’s illness, a calf setback for Ben Chilwell, Diego Moreira’s fatigue and an ankle sprain for Valentin Barco. He said the medical staff had warned that starting Moreira or Emmanuel Emegha would have carried significant risk, and that advice had to be followed.
The head coach was also without Guéla Doué through illness, left Abdoul Ouattara at home for rest, and started Martial Godo, Julio Enciso, Samir El-Mourabet and Andrew Omobamidele on the bench. Those four should come back into the XI against Nice.
Amougou is out of the semi-final and must rest for a few days. Doukouré, who twice asked to come off in the Mainz tie last Thursday after a knock and feverishness, should be available and is due to address the media at midday on Tuesday after a 4-0 win, 0-2 in the first leg.
Moreira, Ouattara and Emegha will be available. A small doubt remains over Guéla Doué, Chilwell and Barco, though O'Neil noted the Argentine already wanted to play at the weekend. Monday was devoted to treatment and indoor work as Strasbourg aim to be at full tilt for the semi-final.
